In 1983, Takanao Muramatsu opened his first store in Harajuku, Japan. This was the birth of the Harajuku Project, or what became H.P.France. The first store grew into a network of 61 stores in Japan, France and Hong Kong.

In 1998, Takanao began searching for the neighborhood to bring his unique vision. He searched the premier shopping areas of New York, but every place was touristy and did not interest him at all. Then he visited the meatpacking district. As he walked on the cobblestone streets, he saw men in bloodstained white coats, scurrying in and out of chilled warehouses. The smell of meat and the color of the abandoned railroad inspired him. He had found a final "destination."

"Destination" opened in April 2001. The boutique, designed by internationally renowned artist Ante Vojnovic, is filled with a carefully edited selection of interior design products, designer accessories and clothing. Takanao is proud to present art from some of the most pre-eminent talents around the world in the gallery space called "Art Box." Three pigs displayed at the store front welcome fashion conscious New Yorkers.
